The new meatless Zero Chicken Burger by KFC Singapore is off limit to vegetarians and vegans. As with most of the plant-based launches, foodservice operators do need to be transparent with the ingredients by properly informing consumers through social media postings and product communications so that vegans/vegetarians can make an informed choice.
For Zero Chicken Burger, unfortunately the patty is fried in the same oil as some chicken products. It also contains animal-derived products such as cheese and mayonnaise. As such, Zero Chicken Burger is aimed largely as consumers who are keen to reduce their consumption of meat, which as proven to be a far bigger market than vegetarians and vegans combined. However by doing so, KFC Singapore has also alienated vegetarians and vegans.
The Zero Chicken Burger is available at SGD 6.55 on its own, or as a meal at SGD 8.65.
