Mini Me Insights recently came across Sumo Wonder, Malaysia’s first okara bread. Marketed as high protein, high fibre, and “Okara Powered”, the product is halal‑certified and designed for all to enjoy. Each 100g serving delivers up to 14g of protein and 13g of fibre, making it a standout in functional bakery innovation.
Okara — soy pulp rich in protein and fibre — is the key ingredient. While not a new launch, the bread has gained renewed attention for its innovative use of upcycled okara, a byproduct of soy‑product manufacturing. By transforming this ingredient into a functional staple, Sumo Wonder adds nutritional value while reducing food waste, aligning with global sustainability and health trends.
Available in variants such as Milky Rich (RM 5.8), Harvest Harmony (RM 7.9) and Choco Chip (RM 4), the range caters to diverse consumer tastes.
This okara bread reflects a broader movement in Malaysia’s bakery sector toward functional nutrition and eco‑friendly innovation, showing how everyday staples can be reimagined to meet modern demands for wellness and sustainability.
