New coconut innovations in Thailand, Vietnam

In Thailand, soy milk drink maker Tofusan has debuted a new soy milk with nata de coco. The drink is low in calorie and aids digestion.

In Vietnam, TH now added coconut into it natural cup yogurt range. The existing natural cup yogurt range comprises aloe vera, durian, matcha green tea, original (sweetened and unsweetened).

Dutchie celebrates summer with mango sticky rice

Dutch Mill from Thailand has sought local dishes for its limited edition summer flavour. The new Dutchie Mango Sticky Rice yogurt is based on the popular local mango sticky rice with konjac for the texture. The company has also added another Dutchie yogurt made from the popular summer drink comprising pineapple and mango.

Meiji Butterfly Pea yoghurt drink & new dessert-inspired yogurts

Thailand-based CP Meiji Co., Ltd. has an interesting innovative yogurt drink that uses butterfly pea as an ingredient. As consumers increasingly eat with their eyes, food makers are increasingly adding the Instagram-friendly butterfly pea, famed for its colour changing ability, into their drink. The blue hue comes when the dried butterfly pea is added with hot water. The colour changes to purple when lemon is added into the mixture.

The new Meiji Paigen Pro 5 Butterfly Pea and Lime has 0% fat. Launched together with Butterfly Pea and Lime is the Meiji Paigen Pro 5 Passion Fruit. Both yogurt drinks contain Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus to help with the digestive system.

For the summer of 2019, CP Meiji added two limited edition flavoured pasteurised milk inspired by local desserts. The pasteurised milk products are Sago Cantaloupe and Thapthim Krop Young Coconut. Thapthim Krop is made of cubes of water chestnuts in syrup coated with red food coloring. It is usually eaten with coconut milk and ice cubes.

Hello! Fiber offers satiety, low calories, digestive benefits

Hello! Fiber, a new drink with 6,000 mg of fiber and low calories, has been launched in Thailand. Each bottle is low in sugar and only has 90 calories. Hello! Fiber is positioned as an in-between meal drink. It contains basil seeds with improved chewability, satiety and digestion. Hello! Fiber is made by Tofusan, which is better known for its soy drinks.

Hello! Fiber is available at 7-Eleven for a price of THB 15 (USD 0.47).

Interesting Ete Star gooseberry and chili salt sauce ice cream and waffle ice cream

Ete Ice Cream from Chiang Mai, Thailand has debuted an interesting ice cream. The Star gooseberry and chili salt sauce ice cream combines the Thai flavours of sour, sweet, spicy in an ice cream to give consumers a taste of Thai.

The company has also recently introduced Boran waffle chocolate ice cream to the delight of consumers.

Mizone + highlights its functionality on pack

To reinvigorate Mizone’s performance in the water plus segment in China, Danone has introduced Mizone + in three variants. Each variant is marked by a distinct Chinese character that represents the essence of the product. Three three variants comprise “Energy” (元), “Strive” (拼) and “Light” (轻), each formulated with ingredients that deliver specific performance. The English terms are loosely translated from Mandarin.

Energy has ginseng for mental alertness, Strive contains taurine to overcome all challenges and Light has fibre to improve digestion. The fibre drink taps into the growing interest in digestive health. Brands are increasingly focusing on fibre-enriched beverages to meet such demand.

Mizone + is priced at around CNY 6.00 per bottle.

100PLUS Active Tasty Lemon launched in Myanmar

Fraser and Neave (F&N) has launched 100PLUS Active Tasty Lemon in Myanmar during the first week of March 2019 to coincide with the summer season. The drink is specially formulated based on Myanmar consumer preference for a sour taste, lemon flavour and the yellow colour.

“While 100PLUS has a strong association with sports and active lifestyle, we have listened to another group of consumers – the busy students and professionals, who desire a hydration beverage which satisfies their palette,” said Freddy Oh, country manager of F&N Myanmar reported Myanmar Times.

100PLUS Active Tasty Lemon is priced at MMK500 (USD0.33) per 380ml bottle and will be available for purchase nationwide from March 2019.

Myanmar Carlsberg unveils extra strong beer with 8.8% ABV

Myanmar Carlsberg Co., Ltd. has launched Black Eagle Stout on 26 February 2019. The extra strong beer has 8.8% alcohol by volume (ABV) to give “consumers the right hint of the buzz in the moment of drinking, and stress the night to the right direction for a re-energized tomorrow,” according to the press release.  

Black Eagle Stout is available in the local market from 1 March 2019 in draught, 330ml cans and 500ml cans. The beer has a balanced bitter and sweet taste.

We feel that Black Eagle Stout can play a strong role engaging with Myanmar consumers who need an affordable extra strong beer. We see parallels with San Miguel’s Red Horse (8% ABV) in the Philippines where the brand together with San Miguel Pale Pilsen are the top selling brands there.

Gardenia has new butter sugar cream roll

Gardenia, the top-selling packaged bread in Malaysia, has made available its butter sugar cream roll. This product is nothing special as competitors have already introduced it.

A netizen left an interesting comment on the Gardenia Facebook page saying the bread company should introduce limited edition red velvet flavour and he will definitely purchase it.

His comment alludes to the fact that innovation is slow at the Gardenia Malaysia team. There is so much more Gardenia can do to bring enjoyment to consumers with new and innovative products.
