Nestlé MILO® ‘Energy For Good’ Programme Completes First Year, Turning Recycled Drink Packs into Sports Equipment and Furniture for Schools

Programme has reached over 200 schools and engaged with 250,000 students

Kuala Lumpur, 2 December 2025 – MILO® today celebrated the successful completion of the first year of its pioneering Energy For Good programme, an initiative by Nestlé Malaysia and MILO® to inspire healthier, more active and sustainable lifestyles among Malaysian youth. The milestone was marked with an appreciation ceremony dedicated to recognising schools that actively participated in the programme, celebrating key achievements and honouring the outstanding contributions of educators, students and communities nationwide.

Launched in April 2025, the MILO® Energy For Good programme reflects Nestlé’s long-term commitment to sustainability. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Tetra Pak Malaysia, the initiative engaged over 250,000 students across more than 200 schools through a point-based recycling and redemption system. This system enables schools to redeem recycled eco-friendly sports equipment or classroom furniture using collected Used Beverage Cartons (UBCs). To date, schools have collectively collected 4.2 tonnes of UBCs, equivalent to 300,000 packs. For the first time, MILO® partnered with AFN Sports Equipment to transform these cartons into sports gear and furniture, bringing this innovative concept to life.

Juan Aranols, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Malaysia, said:
“As MILO® celebrates 75 years in Malaysia, the Energy For Good programme stands as a powerful example of how partnerships can drive meaningful change empowering young Malaysians to lead active lives and champion sustainability. Together with the Ministry of Education, we are turning small habits into big wins by bringing recycling to life in ways that matter. Seeing students embrace this programme and collect five times more than usual is proof that collective action works. Together, we’re building greener schools, stronger communities and a future where sports and sustainability go hand in hand. Our vision is clear – to scale this initiative nationwide and create a generation that champions sustainability as naturally as they play sports.”

As part of the celebration, MILO® honoured eight schools nationwide for their exceptional achievements under the Energy For Good programme – SK Panggong (Kelantan), SJKC La Salle (WP Kuala Lumpur), SJKC Beng Teik (Pusat Pulau Pinang), SK Sri Kelana (Selangor), SK Cheneh Baru (Terengganu), SK Taman Selasih (Kedah), SK Temerloh Jaya (Pahang) with SK Putrajaya Presint 18(1) in WP Putrajaya leading the pack by winning the overall trophy for the highest UBCs collection.

Zainal Bin Abas, Deputy Director General of Education Malaysia (School Operations Sector), Ministry of Education, said, “We encourage all schools to actively engage in this nationwide movement to transform students’ lives through sports and sustainability. The impact of this initiative is visible through the success of students such as Puteri Marsya Darwisya binti Mazadi from SK Durian Burung who has excelled in sports. Through the aid and access of MILO® sporting equipment, she has successfully clinched her first gold medal representing the state of Terengganu through the Terengganu School Sports Council (Majlis Sukan Sekolah Terengganu). Meanwhile, schools such as SJKC La Salle and SK Putrajaya Presint 18(1) have been announced as the top recyclers for this programme. By participating in the MILO® Energy For Good campaign, students embrace sustainable practices, stay active and contribute positively to the community and the environment.”

Muhammad Sufian bin Ishak of SK Putrajaya Presint 18(1) shared, “This recognition is a proud moment for our school. Through the MILO® Energy For Good initiative, our students learned that small actions like recycling can create big changes. We are committed to continuing this journey towards sustainability and inspiring others to do the same.”

Since 2012, MILO® and Tetra Pak Malaysia have championed UBC recycling through Project CAREton, collecting 6,554 tonnes, equivalent to 500 million UBCs which some have been transformed into roofing tiles and furniture for underserved communities. The MILO® Energy For Good campaign builds on this legacy, driving sustainable learning and sports development while shaping a greener future. For more information about MILO® Energy For Good, please visit:

The Wonderful Race 2025: Celebrating The All-Star Champion, Ngie Kok Kiong

Ngie Kok Kiong from Frank’s Bar KL

Malaysia, 3 December 2025 – After a month of competition, Ngie Kok Kiong from Frank’s Bar KL has emerged triumphant as the All-Star Champion of The Wonderful Race 2025. His winning creation,“The Spice That Remembered” captivated judges with its creativity, craftsmanship, and distinctive character — securing the ultimate title in this year’s prestigious showcase of bartending excellence.

Winner – Ngie Kok Kiong (KK) from Frank’s Bar KL with three judges and Joni Na (Regional Brand Manager, Emerging Asia at Brown-Forman)

Judged by an esteemed panel of industry luminaries — Evgeny Yashkovich (Brown Forman’s Regional Advocacy Manager), Kiki Moka (Indonesia’s top bartender from The Cocktail Club), and Scott Lee (Features and Digital Editor of Noble 名人) — the selection of this year’s winner was no easy feat. Each finalist displayed outstanding technique and innovation, but it was the remarkable harmony of taste, creativity, and storytelling, all while embodying the true essence of Woodford Reserve, that ultimately revealed our All-Star Champion.

THE COMPETITION FORMAT

Top 10 Finalists of The Woodford Reserve Wonderful Race 2025

In the first round, the Top 10 finalists were tasked to craft their unique interpretation of the Old Fashioned — one of the world’s most iconic cocktails — under the theme ‘All-Star’. Each creation reflected the bartenders’ personal stories, inspirations, and flair, impressing the judges with both flavour and presentation.

The Top 5 then advanced to an intense yet exhilarating second round, where they faced a surprise challenge curated by Chef Isadora Chai of Bistro à Table — to pair their mystery ingredient to a brand-new Woodford Reserve cocktail that they are required to craft on the spot. This challenge was specially curated as Woodford Reserve is the Official American Whiskey Sponsor of the World’s 50 Best Restaurant.

The 5 ingredients given were Malaysian Figs, Belinjo Nut Crackers, Freshly Shucked Oysters, Smoked Trout, and Gingerbread Cookies.

Ngie Kok Kiong (KK) from Frank’s Bar KL, “The Spice That Remembered”
Justin Tay, Cabinet 8 KL, “Roots of Sweetness”
Tan Zheng Wei from Coley, “Sunset at Sea”

The finalists were given only an hour to brainstorm on their concept, presentation, and come up with the best pairing of their mystery ingredient with the Old Fashioned. Despite the short amount of time, the top 5 finalists demonstrated exceptional creativity, composure, and craftsmanship, rising to the occasion with agility and mastery as they integrated the unexpected ingredient into their creations. After a thrilling round that kept the audience captivated, the Top 3 emerged:

First Runner-Up – Justin Tay from Cabinet 8 KL with judge Evgeny Yashkovich (Brown Forman’s Regional Advocacy Manager)

Tan Zheng Wei from Coley as Second Runner-Up, Justin Tay from Cabinet 8 KL as First Runner-Up, and ultimately, Ngie Kok Kiong from Frank’s Bar KL, who claimed the coveted Championship Title.

Second Runner-Up – Tan Zheng Wei from Coley with judge Scott Lee (Features and Digital Editor of Noble 名人)

THE 2025 ALL-STAR CHAMPION

Our winner, Ngie Kok Kiong, was presented with Gingerbread Cookies as his mystery ingredient. His cocktail, “The Spice That Remembered”, was inspired by a familiar December memory, a kitchen filled with the scent of ginger, warm spice, burnt sugar, and the quiet promise of Christmas.

His creation combined the soul of Woodford Rye, the comforting depth of tuak brine, and a tropical “PX” of passion fruit and cassis – a nod to holiday sweetness, reimagined in his own way. Staying true to the Old Fashioned’s subtle character, Ngie selected lower-sugar elements to let the cocktail’s classic essence shine. A bright note of sweet basil added a gentle lift, like a fresh wreath softening a winter room. Paired with a piece of gingerbread, the drink became a story of contrasts: warm spice and cool herb, deep oak and playful fruit, tradition and imagination. A little bite, a little sip, and Christmas returns in flavour.

As the champion, Ngie Kok Kiong will embark on an exclusive journey to the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky, for an immersive experience in bourbon artistry, craftsmanship, and heritage — a fitting reward for this year’s most exceptional talent. He will also represent Malaysia in The Woodford Reserve Wonderful Race Asia Final competition 2026, where he would compete with regional champions across Asia as they vie for the coveted Asia Championship.

Evgeny Yashkovich, one of the judges and Brown Forman’s Regional Advocacy Manager, shared his thoughts. “What impressed me most was how each bartender approached the Old Fashioned with both innovation and precision. They understood the heritage behind the cocktail, yet weren’t afraid to explore new expressions through flavours and techniques, a true reflection of the spirit behind The Wonderful Race.”

THE ALL-STAR OLD FASHIONED: REIMAGINING A TIMELESS CLASSIC

Now in its third edition, The Wonderful Race continues to honour bartending mastery as part of Old Fashioned Month, a global celebration of one of the world’s most iconic cocktails.

This year’s theme, the “All-Star Old Fashioned”, called on Malaysia’s finest bartenders to reinterpret the timeless drink through creativity, storytelling, and innovation, transforming traditions into their unique version of an All-Star Old Fashioned.

Each cocktail holds a special story, from cultural inspirations to personal journeys, showcasing how techniques, emotions, and imagination can elevate a three-ingredient classic into artistry.

CHEF ISADORA CHAI OF BISTRO À TABLE RAISED THE STAKES WITH A FLAVOUR CHALLENGE

Taking this year’s The Wonderful Race to a whole new level, the 2025 finale introduced a surprise twist — the Chef Isadora Chai Challenge, where the boundaries between culinary artistry and mixology blurred in the most flavourful way.

In the second round, the Top 5 finalists faced a blind draw of five mystery ingredients hand-picked by Chef Isadora Chai, Head Chef at Bistro à Table, an award winning French Malaysian restaurant. Each bartender was tasked to create an original Woodford Reserve cocktail pairing that complemented or elevated their chosen ingredient — ranging from Malaysian Figs, Belinjo Nut Crackers, Freshly Shucked Oysters, Smoked Trout, and Gingerbread Cookies.

“This competition is a reminder of how flavour can connect creativity, relevance and sensory impact across the kitchen and bar. It was inspiring to see how each bartender approached the mystery ingredients, drawing out flavour in unexpected ways while still honouring the Old Fashioned’s timeless character.” Said Chef Isadora Chai.

This one-of-a-kind collaboration underscored Woodford Reserve’s position as a whiskey of remarkable depth and versatility, while strengthening its partnership with the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Aligned with the brand’s identity of complexity, quality, and craftsmanship, the challenge brought together the worlds of gastronomy and mixology to engage and connect with a global audience of culinary enthusiasts. It also showcased the shared values that connect Woodford Reserve and Bistro à Table, such as focus, dedication, passion, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence as both champion fine craftsmanship, diverse flavours, and exceptional, elevated experiences.

Not A Club Officially Opens as Malaysia’s First Don Julio Ultima Reserva & 1942 Flagship

Not A Club's main LED screen and DJ booth

From the visionaries behind The Vault KL comes a luxury nightlife house that’s nothing like you’ve seen before

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 November 2025 – Today, Stark Capital Enterprises announced the launch of Not A Club – the latest creation by the visionary hospitality team behind The Vault KL – which officially opens its doors to the public on Friday, November 28. Not A Club stands as Malaysia’s only flagship destination for Don Julio 1942 and Don Julio Ultima Reserva – a partnership that reflects the venue’s commitment to offering experiences that simply aren’t available anywhere else in the country.

Don Julio Ultima Reserva

Nestled in Medan Damansara, Not A Club occupies a striking industrial space housing only 35 tables where expansive LED screens pulse with energy, atmospheric lighting shifts with the mood, and every corner whispers sophistication. Two exclusive private spaces – The Cabana and The Viewing Deck – offer elevated experiences for those seeking sanctuary within the energy.

The view from Not A Club’s private Viewing Deck

The DNA of Not A Club is built around one core principle: uncompromising quality. As Malaysia’s flagship home for Don Julio’s most prestigious expressions, the venue doesn’t just serve premium tequila – it celebrates it. An off-menu curated selection of cocktails showcases the versatility and craft of high-end spirits, whilst bottle service elevates the experience for guests who want nothing but the best.

Paloma and berry tequila slushies

Daren Yoon has been a driving force behind KL’s nightlife for over a decade as the owner-operator of hugely successful destinations including The Vault KL (celebrating 10 years), Mamba, as well as acclaimed F&B concepts Gekkō and Gold Standard Pho.

“My ventures have largely grown along with my own tastes and preferences. My younger self was all about volume. More people, more drinks, many nights out each week. Now, I’m extremely busy and don’t have the opportunity to meet my friends like I used to. When I can gather people who are important to me, I want to be in a unique and intimate environment,” Yoon explains.

The interior of Not A Club

“Given how limited these occasions are, I also want these moments to be special. Not A Club is exactly the place I want to be. It’s for the people who, like me, seek experiences that can’t be replicated anywhere else,” Yoon adds.

True to Yoon’s philosophy of creating complete experiences, Not A Club features a food hall serving up premium skewers with a selection of premium broths including a rotating ‘flavour of the week’ featuring Gold Standard Pho’s signature recipes – a sophisticated nod to late-night cravings reimagined for discerning palates.

As with all the venues, quality music is paramount. Not A Club’s music programming rotates through distinct themed nights – EDM that electrifies, R&B and Hip Hop that moves, and Manyao/Cantopop house nights that bring a unique cultural edge – ensuring the atmosphere always stays dynamic and fresh.

The name itself is deliberate. Not A Club challenges the conventional nightlife model by prioritising quality over capacity, experience over excess. It’s an invitation to something more considered, a space where every element from the pours to the playlist are executed with perfection.

From 9:30 pm until the early hours, Not A Club transforms Medan Damansara into KL’s most talked-about late-night destination. This is nightlife, redefined. This is Not A Club.

For reservations or inquiries contact +60197002312 Operating hours: 9:30 pm till late

The name “LandOn” itself is a humour blend of a playful Malaysian twist on “London,” while also evoking the idea of landing at a destination. It carries a hint of Kingsman-style underground entry, paired with the approachable charm of local slang. At its core, LandOn is built around curiosity, warmth, and intentional storytelling, inviting guests to uncover and “land on” moments that feel both unexpectedly comforting and distinctively refined.

A bar atmosphere with London’s underground subway nighttime energy LandOn is all about a cosy, intimate atmosphere. Soft, moody lighting sets the tone, giving guests a chance to switch off from the city above and just be. Hidden beneath the streets, the bar is full of thoughtful touches, tables made from KL trees and bar shelves crafted from repurposed durian wood adding character, and a little bit of history to every corner. It’s a space that feels grounded, playful, and full of stories waiting to be discovered. The furniture blends textures and styles, reminiscent of a Central Park–inspired “collected” living room, designed for relaxed comfort rather than formality. Long a home to bars that shaped previous eras of nightlife, the building now welcomes LandOn, carrying that legacy forward for a new generation. This is not a speakeasy, but a seamless “teleportation” into a calm, conversational space.

At LandOn, music and cocktails set the vibe together. The tunes are at a comfortable level perfect for chatting, unwinding, and soaking in the space as there are no private rooms, everyone shares the same buzz. Early evenings bring chill R&B and nostalgic tracks for easy conversation, while after 10PM the groove heats up with soul, funk, and rhythms that make you want to move. DJ sets, themed nights, and live performances keep the energy fresh and ever-changing.

The cocktails match the night’s rhythm. LandOn’s young, self-taught mixologist turns every drink into a story, crafting flavours inspired by guests’ moods and cravings. With 18 years experience from Nerovivo in Bukit Ceylon, Tatto in KL city centre to Bukit Damansara’s Huckleberry Hospitality Group, he brings flair, imagination, and a playful touch to every pour. KL’s growing bar scene, he crafts cocktails inspired by emotions, moods, and unexpected twists. Magenta Blitz, Whispering Jade, and Madagasia the signature cocktails that set the tone for the evening. LandOn’s cocktails, built around house-made syrups featuring local flavours like nangka and pandan, are crafted to evolve every 3–6 months. Even the non-drinkers are covered, with alternatives, and non-alcoholic beers. A must-try is Madagasia, a gin-based cocktail layered with warm, spiced notes of cinnamon and pink peppercorn. The bar snacks are simple and designed to satisfy every cravings from truffle fries, chicken wings to pan-seared Australian beef with rosemary oil and more.

“In a nightlife scene often defined by loudness or exclusivity, LandOn steps in as the bar that feels like home – relaxed, conversational, and welcoming to all. We are building a place people talk about, where everyone feels at ease and discovers something new every time they land at LandOn.” The LandOn Team.

US-ASEAN Business Council Urges Regional Alignment to Advance Southeast Asia’s Circular Economy

(L-R) Roberto Benetello, Chief Executive Officer, Malaysian Recycling Alliance; Cheang Kok Chung, Executive Director, Singapore Environment Council; Christine Wan, Tina Jamaluddin, Chief Country Representative Malaysia, US-ABC; Umesh Madhavan, Director of Packaging Sustainability, The Coca-Cola Company; Lionel Choong, Executive Director, Hiroyuki Industries

JOHOR, MALAYSIA & JAKARTA, INDONESIA, November 27, 2025 – To accelerate Southeast Asia’s transition to a circular economy, the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) is actively fostering collaboration between the private and public sectors. The goal is to develop practical, investment-friendly Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems specifically designed to optimize the lifecycle management of packaging products across the region.

Implementing effective EPR systems in Southeast Asia presents unique challenges, including the complex integration of the region’s vast informal waste sector, limited institutional capacity and support, and persistent funding limitations. Furthermore, the scarcity of reliable waste data significantly hinders target setting and performance measurement, making it difficult to gauge the true impact of current efforts.

“Clear, predictable, government-mandated and industry-run EPR frameworks are essential for scaling circular economy solutions across ASEAN,” said Nugraheni Utami, Chief Country Representative for Indonesia, USABC. “Regional alignment on core principles, supported by transparent reporting, creates a level playing field for industry and investment in the infrastructure needed for effective, inclusive EPR systems to drive circular outcomes for packaging.”

As ASEAN member states move beyond traditional ‘take-make-dispose’ models, the USABC underscores that a unified approach is paramount. Regionally aligned standards instil confidence in companies to invest in local recycling infrastructure, assured by clear and consistent rules that also encourage the seamless movement and exchange of materials across markets.

“Malaysia’s upcoming EPR framework is an opportunity to build a practical, multi-material system that drives environmental impact and investment certainty,” added Tina Jamaluddin, Chief Country Representative for Malaysia, USABC. “Mutually recognized principles across ASEAN, paired with national flexibility, help reduce fragmentation and support efficient implementation across the region.”

Industry leaders are already demonstrating commitment. “Addressing waste management collection and infrastructure challenges is often complex, however Coca-Cola is committed to collective action to accelerate progress”, said Umesh Madhavan, Director, Packaging Sustainability of Coca-Cola. “Across Southeast Asia, together with our bottling partners, we collaborate with governments, industry, recyclers, and NGOs to strengthen local recycling and collection systems and infrastructure. Our efforts include advocating for well-structured EPR systems in Malaysia and Indonesia, and well-designed Deposit Return Systems (DRS) in Singapore. Through ongoing investments and partnerships, we are committed to helping reduce plastic packaging waste.”

Crucial to these efforts are key partners like Mahija Foundation (Mahija Parahita Nusantara) and innovative recycling facilities such as Hiroyuki Industries in Malaysia and Amandina Bumi Nusantara in Indonesia. These entities provide the foundational infrastructure and technical capabilities vital for robust national EPR systems.

“A circular economy must be inclusive and ethical. At Mahija Foundation, we are implementing the Responsible Sourcing Initiative to ensure that the transition from informal to formal waste management puts people first”, said Ardhina Zaiza, Chairwoman of Mahiija Foundation. “By embedding human rights and fair labor standards directly into the supply chain, we provide the transparency that partners like Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) and Amandina need. This ensures that the high-quality material entering the recycling loop is not only environmentally sustainable but socially responsible, uplifting the waste pickers who are the heroes of this ecosystem.”

While Southeast Asia’s journey to a circular economy has its inherent challenges, this collaborative momentum demonstrates its immense possibilities. By uniting industry leaders, policymakers, and local recycling innovators, the region is actively constructing a practical, investment-focused roadmap. This collective action is the key to overcoming obstacles and transforming the lifecycle of packaging for a more sustainable and inclusive Southeast Asia, pioneering industry-led transformation towards efficient material collection, recycling, and reuse.
