SINGAPORE, 20 May 2026 – For the founders of the local snack brand Hey! Chips, Superbeans began with a simple frustration: they wanted a convenient way to add more protein and fibre to fuel their active lifestyles, but could not find a snack that matched the way they wanted to eat.
Living by a clean-eating principle, the couple discovered that almost everything marketed as ‘high protein’ was packed with long lists of protein isolates, concentrates, flavourings, artificial sweeteners and chemical additives.
“We wanted to include more protein and fibre in our hectic lives, but it was hard to find natural options,” says Emily Chu, co-founder of Hey! Chips. “Most protein chips and bars tasted unpleasant, with many artificial ingredients. We wanted something we could eat regularly and feel good about.”
The founders went back to where Hey! Chips first began: their home kitchen. They began experimenting with edamame and chickpeas – two legumes naturally high in protein and fibre. The golden rule was simple: keep the ingredients clean and seasonings completely transparent.
Instead of relying on commercial flavourings used in mass-market snacks, the founders spent months hand-mixing herbs and spices from scratch. Inspired by their love for Italian home cooking, they eventually perfected flavours into Garlic Basil, Hot & Spicy, and Himalayan Salt.
Today, Hey! Chips is shaking things up in the protein aisle with the official launch of Superbeans – a crunchy snack made with whole legumes, a dash of rice bran oil, and freshly ground herbs and spices. There are no protein isolates, added sugar, or artificial additives.
Superbeans edamame boasts a high protein level of 41g per 100g, a massive dose of dietary fibre at 14g per 100g, and no artificial ingredients, making it a clean-label alternative to highly processed protein bars and chips.
Unlike conventional beans which are roasted at high heat, Superbeans utilises Hey! Chips’ unique vacuum dehydration technology. This low-temperature method delivers a satisfying crunch while reducing nutrient loss and oxidation. It is the exact method used to create Hey!
