Kuala Lumpur, 11 September 2025 – STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is playing an increasingly important role in preparing Malaysian students to think critically, solve problems creatively, and drive the nation’s progress in a rapidly changing world.
For the past six years, Samsung Malaysia has been hosting the Solve for Tomorrow in collaboration with Universiti Malaya, providing a platform for students to put their STEM knowledge into practice by addressing real-world challenges. This initiative not only nurtures innovation but also strengthens unity by bringing together young Malaysians from diverse backgrounds to collaborate on meaningful solutions.
Furthermore, this mission also supports the government’s National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), which aims to cultivate 60,000 skilled local talents by 2030. By encouraging students to apply STEM knowledge beyond the classroom, Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow helps build the foundation for Malaysia’s future workforce and innovation ecosystem.
Last year’s winners exemplified the spirit of innovation and collaboration through impactful projects such as:
- Team TerraInovators (Johor) – Developed Eco Pulse, an AI-powered image recognition app designed to simplify and improve the recycling process.
- Team Miso Soup (Sabah) – Created an elephant-friendly farm alarm system to protect the endangered Borneo Pygmy Elephants by detecting nearby elephants and trespassers.
- Team Eagle Young (Kuala Lumpur) – Offered an eco-friendly alternative to conventional cleaning, agriculture, and medical products by producing bioethanol derived from cassava roots.
- Team The Visionaries (Sabah) – Harnessed piezoelectricity from special tiles to generate clean energy using the kinetic force of moving vehicles.
- Team Renew Shield (Sarawak) – Produced a biodegradable membrane made from natural wax and eco-friendly kitchen ingredients to reduce waste and encourage sustainability.
Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Mas Sahidayana Mohktar, Director of Universiti Malaya’s STEM Centre, shared, “STEM education empowers students to think critically, solve problems creatively, and apply their knowledge to real-world challenges. What we have seen through this programme is that when students are given the right platform, they can transform classroom lessons into solutions that make a tangible difference in their communities. It is inspiring to witness their growth as innovators and problem-solvers, and we hope more students will step forward to showcase their ideas this year.”
As Malaysia Day reminds us of the nation’s strength in unity and shared progress, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2025 continues to empower students nationwide to go beyond textbooks and turn ideas into action. Together, they form a united movement of young Malaysians driving innovative solutions for a brighter tomorrow.
