Thailand’s Berli Jucker, the operator of Big C Supercentre, plans to open its first Big C Supercentre in Malaysia soon. The company’s chief executive and president Aswin Techajareonvikul said “we are interested in Malaysia because there are few retail chains and Malaysian customers are quite familiar with Big C through our stores in Hat Yai and Pattani, reported Bangkok Post on 21 September 2018.

Berli Jucker also plans to open its first Big C Supercentre in Cambodia and a Big C Supercentre in Laos in 2019. In Vietnam, MM Mega Market is being repositioned into hypermarket or a hybrid of convenience stores and hypermarkets. Five MM Mega Market will be opened in Ho Chi Minh City in 2019.

The proposed Big C Supercentre in Malaysia will be exciting as the hypermarket chain especially the CentralWorld outlet is already a mecca for tourists from around the world. We expect Malaysian shoppers would like to see more popular Thai products at the new Big C in Malaysia.
