Thailand’s food scene rallies behind troops amid border tensions

The sense of patriotism rises in Thailand amidsts the ongoing conflict between the country with its neighbouring Cambodia with foodservice operators voicing their support for the country’s effort.

Mister Donut Thailand has introduced its newest creation, the Hero Donut, in a show of support for Thai soldiers stationed along the Thailand–Cambodia border. With every Hero Donut purchased, THB 5 will be donated to the Royal Thai Army’s Civil Affairs Department to aid its mission.

Central Restaurants Group (CRG), the franchise owner of Mister Donut in Thailand, has taken a bold step in launching this campaign—one that carries potential risks for the brand, especially considering Japan-based Duskin Co. Ltd. also runs Big Apple Donuts & Coffee in Cambodia.

PTG Energy (PTG) is expanding its Non-Oil business with PT GIGA EV, a new 24/7 EV service station prototype—petrol-free and eco-focused—in Ladprao-Wang Hin, Bangkok.

PT GIGA EV features 5 Elex by EGAT PT charging cabinets with 10 nozzles, delivering up to 180 kW charging capacity. Seamlessly integrating lifestyle services from PTG’s Non-Oil group: Pun Thai Coffee shop, Subway and car service and maintenance center Autobacs —the station offers a one-stop experience for EV charging, relaxation and car care, designed to serve both EV and internal combustion engine users.

To promote clean energy, PTG is offering a limited-time deal: charge at just THB 1 per unit (down from 7.5 baht) from July 25 to August 24, 2025, exclusively at PT GIGA EV.

Retailers, especially those in foodservice, are joining the electric vehicle (EV) movement, with EV charging stations rapidly gaining traction—soon to become as ubiquitous as free WiFi.

Some EV charging providers are encouraging foodservice businesses to join the electric vehicle movement by offering free, slower-paced EV charging as an added amenity—positioning it as a value-added service to attract and retain customers.

To grow its food export business, Oishi Holding Public Company Limited is introducing a range of innovative products tailored to two consumer segments: Adventurous Foodies and Premium Snacking enthusiasts, reported prachachat.net. Drawing inspiration from Thai culinary heritage and presenting it through the widely popular lens of Japanese cuisine, the brand offers a unique and accessible fusion under the OYOSHI EATO label—created exclusively for global markets.

Leading this initiative are two standout products for Europe:

According to Ms. Sasai Tungdajahirun, today’s global food consumption landscape is shaped by three dominant trends: convenience-driven eating habits, growing health awareness, and a rising appetite for unique, international flavour experiences.

These evolving preferences are fueling the emergence of promising consumer segments such as Adventurous Foodies, who crave bold and uncommon ingredients, and Premium Snackers, who demand convenient yet high-quality and delicious snack options. Notably, both groups are experiencing rapid growth across the European market.

NSL Foods Public Company Limited (NSL), known for contract manufacturing and co-developing hot-baked sandwiches for 7-Eleven, is investing THB 800 million to build a new facility in Chonburi, located near the existing factory, reported prachachat.net. Scheduled to commence operations in mid-2026, the plant marks a strategic move in NSL’s shift from an OEM model to an export-focused business.

Initially, the new factory will boost hot-baked sandwich production and drive export expansion, with a goal of exports rising from 0.5% to 5% of revenue by the end of 2025 or reach THB 300-350 million baht in revenue. The key overseas markets being the US (50%), the United Kingdom and Europe (15%), and the Middle East (5-6%).

Looking ahead to the second half of 2025, NSL plans to roll out 5 to 6 new products monthly, targeting total revenue of THB 6,700–6,800 million by the end of 2025—a 16% jump from 2024’s THB 5,700 million. This revenue will be divided as follows: OEM business (80%), export business (5%), Food Services business (5%), Owned Brand (5%), and Bake A Wish (5%).

This new factory will have a total production capacity of 1.4 million pieces per day, sufficient to support growth for another 5-6 years. The new facility is also positioned as an export hub, focusing on products like desserts, frozen items and ready-to-eat meals—including the inventive “rice sticks.” This strategic setup supports the company’s ambitious efforts to expand into international markets.
