Kewpie 210ml dressings now in 100% rPET bottles

Kewpie Malaysia has recently revamped its packaging by using rPET or recycled PET plastic for its bottles. The company’s 210ml bottles will now be made entirely from rPET, in line with its commitment to reducing plastic emissions by at least 30% by 2030 compared to 2018

By switching to rPET for its 210ml dressings, Kewpie is expected to reduce its annual consumption of virgin PET by 21 metric tons.

This initiative involves three key partners: Kewpie, which produces the dressings; Hiroyuki, which manufactures food-grade recycled PET resin from used PET bottles collected in Malaysia; and Canzo, which manufactures PET bottles.

While rPET generally commands a higher price than virgin PET, which could affect the profit margins of companies that adopt rPET, passing these costs on to consumers may be challenging. Additionally, brands must encourage consumers to responsibly dispose of their used PET bottles to increase the collection rate, enabling the production of new rPET bottles.

Achieving Eco-Conscious Milestones: Coway Malaysia successfully planted 20 trees with FRIM and collected more than 250 KG of river rubbish with EcoKnights

This collaboration between Coway and EcoKnights will extend more river clean-ups in the upcoming months in multiple locations within the Klang Valley. Besides, to further educate the volunteers on proper waste management, the volunteers get to experience soap-making Eco workshop and learnt ways of upcycling used cooking oil into soap.

Carabao launches quality German beer

Thailand’s Carabao Group has launched Carabao and Tawandang beer brands in both bottle and can formats. The company will distribute these alcoholic drinks through its strong network of traditional trade channels (Tookdee), 1,000 CJ Mall stores, and cash van operations.

The company has an existing microbewery Tawandang German Brewery producing beer under the German Beer Purity Law, which uses only malt, hops and yeast.

To support the new beer venture, Carabao has invested THB 4 billion in the building of a beer manufacturing plant in Chai Nat province with a total annual output capacity of 400 million litres, according to Bangkok Post. Chai Nat is located withint the 200km radius from Bangkok. The initial production capacity is 200 million litres.

The Carabao brand will focus on the economy and stadard segments, while the Tawandang brand will aim at the premium segment. Both brands will offer aromas and tastes closely assembling the beer sold by Tawandang German Brewery.

Carabao beer comprises Lager beer and Dunkel beer, while Tawandang beer consists of Rose beer, IPA beer and Weizen beer.

Ichitan adds Korean Honey Lemon flavour in the Tansansu series

Ichitan has launched Tansansu carbonated drink in Korean Honey Lemon flavour as the fourth flavour in the Tansansu series. This innovative sparkling drink taps into the adult soft drink category.

In the company’s Q3, 2023 financial report, Ichitan disclosed it registered a 25% rise in sales to THB 2.1 billion with net profit surging 71% to THB 328 million. Ichitan Green tea, Yen Yen, Ichitan Alkaline Water (pH Plus), and Tansansu carbonated drinks all experienced concurrent expansion. Domestic sales during the first nine months of 2023 increased by 27% from the growth of the ready-to-drink tea market segment and new products.
