Lotte Chilsung promoting sugar-free Chum Churum Saero Soju in Southeast Asia

Lotte Chilsung is trying to replicate its success in South Korea with the sugar-free Chum Churum Saero Soju (16% ABV) in Southeast Asia.

In South Korea, the liquor producer sold 100 million 360ml bottles in the first seven months of the September 2022 launch. The sugar-free soju trend in South Korea resonates with consumers looking for a healthier option with lower calories. Companies promote zero-sugar soju as ‘lighter’ and having a cleaner taste. 

Soju has an average of 408 calories per 360ml bottle, more than three times higher than a can of beer, and 0.18 grams of sugar. The sugar-free Saero has a lower colorie count at 324kcal, thanks primarily to the lowered alcohol volume and the elimination of fructose through sweeteners like erythritol and stevia.

In Southeast Asia, Lotte Chilsung has launched Chum Churum Saero Soju in Vietnam and Malaysia to find new avenues of growth beyond the popular flavoured soju. Saero helps to make traditional soju more approachable.

In Vietnam, Lotte Chilsung held a Saero Pop-up Store on Bui Vien Street in Ho Chi Minh City to convey the brand experience, including cocktail making, to young consumers.

In Malaysia, Saero is distributed by Luen Heng Food and Beverage and is now sold in supermarkets and restaurants nationwide.

In addition to Saero, Lotte Chilsung has launched Chungha Starlight Sparkling Rice & White Wine in Vietnam. This 295ml drink with 7% ABV is a new product launched by Chungha rice wine and blended with the sweetness of white wine and sparkling carbonation.

As a a testament to the success of soju abroad, South Korea’s soju exports exceeded USD 100 million for the first time in 10 years since 2013. The top export destinations in 2023 are:

  • Japan – USD 30.83 million
  • US – USD 23.55 million
  • China – USD 10.46 million
  • Vietnam – USD 7.93 million
  • Philippines – USD 4.47 million

Nu RTD tea gets a new refreshing look

PT ABC President Indonesia has refreshed the packaging of its RTD tea in Indonesia, featuring a pop colour tone to convey a more youthful image. The Nu RTD tea range has different color closures to match the drink.

Currently, Nu RTD tea comprises Nu Green Tea Madu, Original, Gula Batu, Less Sugar, Nu Yogurt Tea, Nu Milk Tea, Nu Teh Tarik and Nu Choco Hazeltea.

Challenge yourself to new Mamasuka Mie Hot Lava instant noodles

Daesang Food Indonesia has combined its Mamasuka Hot Lava Sauce into a new instant noodle range. The all-new Mamasuka Mie Hot Lava comprises chicken spicy and spicy cheese flavours.

The current Mamasuka Delisaos Hot Lava Sauce comprises spicy sauce, volcano spicy sauce, Korean fried chicken with honey, Korean fried chicken with spicy honey and Korean fried chicken with garlic honey.

New Chitato Lite potato chips with Indomie Ayam Bawang flavour

Indonesia’s Indofood has combined two flagship products, Chitato Lite potato chip, and Indomie, to create the new Chitato Lite x Indomie Ayam Bawang. This product features the flavour of Indomie chicken onion-flavoured instant noodles.

In the past, Indofood has introduced Indomie-flavoured potato chips, including Indomie Mi Goreng Fried Noodle and Indomie Corned Beef Fried Noodle.

Indomie Rawon Pedas Mercon pays homage to East Java cuisine

Indomie Rawon Pedas Mercon is the new instant noodle featuring Indonesian beef soup rawon but with a spicy taste. The word ‘Mercon’ means fireworks, and it implies strong heat intensity.

The instant noodle comes in black soup mimicking the real rawon, which uses the black keluak nut as the main seasoning, giving the soup a dark colour.

Indomie Rawon Pedas Mercon is part of the flavour of Indonesia range, and this particular product pays homage to East Java’s cuisine.

Try the new Tango Walut Brazilian Banana and Tango Coconut

Indonesia’s Orang Tua (OT) has made new Tango wafer products available in the local market. The new Tango Walut Brazilian Banana combines chocolate and banana flavours, while the new Tango Coconut is a wafer with the coconut flavour. New ABC Sambal Extreme Pedas made using Hiyung bird’s eye chili

PT Heinz ABC Indonesia has gone up one notch in the spicy level with the launch of ABC Sambal Extreme Pedas. This new, extremely spicy sauce is made using Hiyung bird’s eye chili, which is said to be the spiciest in Indonesia.
