ThaiNamthip and Swire Coca-Cola to form a north ASEAN bottling alliance

Alliance will seek to grow north ASEAN operations through combination of capabilities and scale

09 Feb 2024 – The Coca-Cola Company, ThaiNamthip Corporation Limited and Swire Coca-Cola Limited have announced today they have entered into definitive agreements to form a strategic bottling alliance in north ASEAN, including Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.

The companies will align the management, governance and growth objectives across the ThaiNamthip and Swire Coca-Cola franchise territories with an aim to become the undisputed leader in the beverages market in the region. The alliance will drive profitable growth through world-class differentiating capabilities and a relentless focus on customers and consumers.

The alliance will leverage the local knowledge and understanding in Thailand and Laos of ThaiNamthip and the global perspective of Swire Coca-Cola. Through the combination of their capabilities, scale, and capacity to invest locally, the alliance will seek to achieve their substantial long-term growth ambitions.

The alliance will be brought about by The Coca-Cola Company divesting its minority ownership of ThaiNamthip to both ThaiNamthip and Swire Coca-Cola immediately after signing today. Additionally, subject to regulatory approvals, Swire Coca-Cola will take a controlling stake in ThaiNamthip’s bottling operations in Thailand and Laos, and ThaiNamthip will take a minority stake in Swire Coca-Cola’s bottling operations in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Coca-Cola ASEAN and South Pacific President Claudia Lorenzo said, “Coca-Cola is celebrating 75 years in Thailand this year. We are delighted that in this anniversary year two exceptional bottling partners are joining forces in our key north ASEAN markets. Between them they bring the local knowledge and global insights that will accelerate all our markets forward into the future.”

The transactions are subject to the parties receiving regulatory approvals. The parties are committed to working together to implement a smooth implementation with minimal disruption for customers, consumers and system employees.

Bear Brand by Nestlé Thailand has launched the limited edition ‘Pink Milk’ to engage consumers through interesting flavours. This enriched UHT milk is high in calcium and vitamin D. The ‘Pink Milk’ flavour is based on nom yen, which is traditionally prepared using sala-flavored syrup, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk and water.

Uni-President (Thailand) taps the relaxation properties of floral rose tea

Uni-President (Thailand) Ltd. has launched Rose Drink, a new RTD tea with rose juice (from rose powder) and 18% mixed fruit flavoured juice (white grape, strawberry, red grape, apple raspberry, cherry, blackcurrant).

Sold under the Unif T brand, the new Rose Drink targets females looking for a beverage for a little moment of respite and self pampering. The packaging and communication associate the drink with the popular afternoon tea relaxation moment.

In Taiwan, Uni-President has an existing rose-flavored fruit tea called Rose Beauty (美研社), made from real roses that have been boiled. This fruit tea targets females looking for a moment to heal and relax after a busy day at work or living a hectic life. Rose Beauty taps into the rejuvenation and healing properties of floral fruit tea. As the girl’s best friend, the brand’s tagline is stay beautiful always with each sip. 

This drink can be ritualised as a go-to drink whenever one needs a mood uplift, which will spur repeat purchases.

The beverage with a sour and sweet taste profile is also free from caffeine to ensure consumers can rest well without the jitters from caffeine.

 

Dairy Queen Thailand’s expansion plans for 2024

Dairy Queen Thailand plans to expand by another ten kiosks or Grab&Go in 2024, seven of which will be company-owned and the remaining three franchises, according to Prachachat.net. The cost of investment for a kiosk-style store is around THB 3 million to THB 3.5 million per outlet. The ice cream chain will also expand into universities and office buildings to be close to its consumers.

Dairy Queen currently has 520 branches nationwide comprising 290 franchise branches and 230 company-managed outlets.

The business direction for 2024 is to become a place for consumers to stop and rest, including having the concept of a DQ lounge with 50% of the space in the store devoted to the seating area. The first DQ lounge opened in 2023 at Central Westgate, and Dairy Queen will open the second at Future Park & ​​Zpell Rangsit. The focus on stop and rest comes as consumers return to the pre-COVID routine of spending more time out of home in physical stores.

To reach its more customers dairy Queen will also deploy mobile EV trucks in Bangkok and surrounding areas in the intial phase. 

Dairy Queen derives the bulk of its revenue in Thailand, with 65% from ice cream, 20% from cakes, and 10% from drinks.

Thailand’s Lactasoy has recently given its Lactasoy Black Sesame drink a new packaging makeover with a new black cover colour scheme. The black-coloured packaging highlights the product’s hero ingredient, black sesame. 

In addition to the black packaging, Lactasoy Black Sesame has the ‘Vegan-friendly’ claim prominently on the front of the pack to appeal to consumers who want vegan-friendly options. 

The UHT soymilk with black sesame has soybeans as a source of protein. The drink is lower in sugar and has 15 vitamins and minerals, including calcium and vitamins B1, B2, B6, and E.

There are four pack sizes: 125 ml (THB 6), 200 ml (THB 9), 250 ml (THB 12), and 1,000 ml (THB 35).
