“Yeo’s Itadakimasu – Tuna with a Twist” brought the Taste, Culture and Spirit of Japan to the Heart of Bukit Bintang

Kuala Lumpur, 3 October 2026 – Yeo’s celebrated the launch of its first-ever canned Teriyaki Tuna in Malaysia with “Yeo’s Itadakimasu – Tuna with a Twist”, bringing the taste, culture and spirit of Japan to the heart of Bukit Bintang through a vibrant Japanese-inspired experience. With a heritage built on pioneering food and beverage innovation, Yeo’s has continuously evolved to bring Asian flavours and everyday convenience to consumers. From being among the first to introduce canned curry chicken to pioneering a diverse range of Asian beverages and sauces, Yeo’s has consistently pushed boundaries and found new ways to bring familiar flavours to consumers.

Over the years, Yeo’s has continued to expand its offerings, evolving with changing consumer tastes and embracing new flavour inspirations. Continuing this spirit of innovation, Yeo’s is now looking beyond familiar local flavours to explore international-inspired tastes with Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna. Featuring tender tuna paired with a savoury-sweet teriyaki sauce, the new creation brings a distinctive Japanese twist to the range alongside Yeo’s Chilli Spicy Tuna, offering consumers a fresh and exciting way to enjoy a familiar pantry staple.

“Yeo’s has always been driven by a spirit of innovation, evolving with the tastes and lifestyles of consumers while staying true to our heritage. From being among the first in Malaysia to introduce canned curry chicken to the familiar flavours Malaysians have grown up with, we continue to explore new flavour inspirations from around the world, bringing fresh and relevant choices to the table. With Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna, we are taking this journey a step further by introducing a Japanese-inspired flavour that brings a contemporary twist to a familiar pantry staple, creating new possibilities for families and younger generations to enjoy Yeo’s in ways that fit today’s tastes,” said Tan Mei Yen, Yeo’s Country General Manager.

The introduction of tuna also taps into its nutritional value and familiarity among Malaysian consumers. A study published in Food & Nutrition Research on fish consumption patterns among adults in Peninsular Malaysia identified tuna as the fourth most frequently consumed marine fish among those surveyed. Recently, figures from Malaysia’s Fisheries Department also reported that 431,000kg of tuna worth RM7.76 million were brought into Penang in 2024, more than double the volume recorded in 2023, reflecting the state’s growing role in Malaysia’s tuna industry. Together, these insights highlight the continued relevance of tuna in Malaysia and its established place within the local seafood landscape. As consumers increasingly look for convenient and flavourful food options that can fit into a balanced diet, Yeo’s is responding with a fresh flavour direction through Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna, bringing a Japanese-inspired twist to a familiar pantry staple.

“We know that Malaysians appreciate food that is convenient, versatile and full of flavour. With Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna, consumers can enjoy the savoury taste of teriyaki in a format that is easy to incorporate into everyday meals, whether enjoyed on its own, paired with rice or noodles, or used to create their own dishes. Beyond introducing a new flavour, Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna is also high in protein and a source of Omega-3, offering nutritional benefits that complement today’s growing interest in more balanced and mindful food choices. We are excited to bring this new flavour to Malaysians and let them discover their own favourite way to enjoy it,” added Tan Mei Yen.

The launch was brought to life through “Yeo’s Itadakimasu – Tuna with a Twist”, a Japanese-inspired roadshow held from 2–4 October 2026 at The Starhill Ground Floor Piazza, Bukit Bintang. Visitors enjoyed a range of interactive experiences, including Yeo’s Teriyaki Tuna sampling, a stamp-collecting adventure, Japan-inspired photobooth, Gashapon game and Cosplay Competition with prizes ranging from Yeo’s products and Touch ‘n Go reloads to onsen vouchers and a flight ticket to Japan.

Adding to the excitement, Yeo’s also took its Japanese-inspired experience to the streets of Bukit Bintang with a guerrilla activation inspired by Tokyo’s iconic Shibuya Crossing. Dressed in kimonos and other traditional Japanese wafuku, the guerrilla crew brought an unexpected touch of Japan to the area, creating memorable moments for members of the public.
