Nestle joins force with Siklus to reduce plastic waste through refill

Nestlé Indonesia is trialling an innovative refillable packaging solution to help reduce single-use packaging. The Swiss multinational food and drink company has partnered with start-up Siklus in a three-month trial in South Jakarta. Siklus, which means “cycle” in Bahasa Indonesia, refills household products in a bid to reduce plastic waste.

The program will see Nestlé selling Milo, Dancow and Koko Krunch from tricycle carts fitted with refillable dispensing systems.

According to Nestlé Research & Development “this service allows consumers to choose how much of each product they wish to buy, and to package it using their own containers. Using the Siklus app, they can even order online in advance, and the cart will deliver to their homes at a time of their choosing.”

Malaysia’s GoodMorning Global, which makes multi-grain beverages, has made available its latest product – GoodMorning Madu Kurma 18 Grains. The new product is said to provide you with immediate energy, keep the digestive system healthy & better control of blood sugar and is high in antioxidants for cancer prevention.

We highlighted this product to show how kurma beverages have evolved in Malaysia. We are seeing more kurma-based products combining Sunnah ingredients such as honey. In addition, this product has 18 grains, thus pointing to the opportunity to combine kurma with premium ingredients like quinoa or even millet.

Cocoaland releases new Lot 100 DHA Gummy to help with DHA supplementation

Malaysia’s Cocoaland Holdings Bhd has launched Lot 100 DHA Gummy. Now consumers can enjoy chewable gummy in a more healthy way. The DHA Gummy is available in white grape and mixed berry flavours. Gummy is now a popular format for vitamin, minerals and supplements (VMS).

Also available is Rotong Mala Hotpot Flavour Snack, which taps into the mala flavour trend.

During the second half of 2021, Cocoaland reported a 7.3% yoy decline in revenue mainly attributable to the softer demand for gummy and hard candy of Contract Manufacturing Business especially in China and the Philippines. The decline in revenue was partially offset by rising demand of in-house gummy in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Malaysia.

Cobra Energy Drink now comes in 50% less sugar

Asia Brewery Inc has finally launched a diet version of its iconic Cobra Energy Drink in the Philippines. Known as Cobra Light, the new energy drink offers Immuniplus+ (Vitamin D & Zinc) with 50% less sugar. Cobra Energy Drink has a 65% market share in the energy drink category in the Philippines, according to LT Group’s press release on its 1H 2021 results.

The new Simba Richeese Pillow features the famous Richeese cheese filling. It complements the current product Choco Pillow Cereal with Chocolate Cream.

In Thailand, Häagen-Dazs is offering Salted Caramel Cappucino and Brownie Macchiato in pint as part of the Barista Collection. Also available are the Crispy Sandwich Salted Caramel Cappuccino stick and Salted Caramel Cappuccino stick.

Santa Fe’ Steak launches healthy dishes with miso sauce and cheeva pork

Santa Fe’ Steak in Thailand has launched Salmon Steak with Miso Sauce and Japanese Rice Mix Quinoa under the Healthy Time series. The miso sauce is said to offer probiotic, which contribute to improved gut health. Also available with miso sauce is the choice of chicken, dory fish and seabass.

The steakhouse chain, operated by KT Restaurant Co, has also added a new menu called Cheeva Pork Collar Steak with Thai Spicy Sauce. The Cheeva pork from CP is said to be a source of omega 3.

Zee Khai graduated with a Chemical Engineering degree in 2020 and is presently attached with HEINEKEN Malaysia’s Engineering team in the Supply Chain department.
