Slip into unwind mode at a vibrant and beautifully curated space, Bungalow18 by Frankitas

A Slice Of Bliss That Gifts You A Change Of Pace

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7, 2022 – There is a new crib in town! With a bold design and a playful attitude, Bungalow18 by Frankitas introduces itself as a multi-concept space featuring a multi-label boutique, fitness classes, manicure and pedicure services, workshops, as well as a pop-up café and bespoke private events space within the aspirational district of Damansara Heights in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This passionate creation is helmed by Francisca Turner Shaik (best known as Franki) of Frankitas in partnership with Gayathri Subramaniam (best known as Gaya) from Just Gaya’s. Franki and Gaya are not only business partners, but have been childhood friends since they were 12 years of age.

“During COVID-19, we felt a large vacuum and a disconnect in human social aspects, leading to mental health issues arising in many people, including ourselves. For this reason, we wanted to create a safe space for our friends and family, as well as our customers to reconnect again. At the same time, we wanted to connect part of our cherished childhood memories to our brand, as the bungalow itself takes inspiration from Gaya’s childhood home in Petaling Jaya, which many of our friends have enjoyed moments in, either in secondary or our university years. It was a home that many enjoyed because it was a safe, warm, welcoming, and nurturing space in so many ways. In turn, we wanted to recreate these emotions we felt in Bungalow18,” shared Franki.

Prior to this partnership, Franki’s gallery was solely focused on Frankitas accessories together with home decor and a handful of other brands- under Frankitas collective. Franki has since worked on expanding the business in other ways. Today at Bungalow18, you can browse through a diverse selection of local indie brands that may not be part of the mainstream radar such as Frankitas, Fugeelah, Just Gaya’s, Owl X Frankitas, Bayou, Batik Martian, Favory Home and many more. The brands at The Boutique at Bungalow18 steer clear of fast-fashion and trends, opting to release only curated collections featuring timeless silhouettes and home decor with a flare.

The range of merchandise by Frankitas showcases a spread of bold colours and textile motifs that are meticulously handwoven and inspired by traditional art. Franki observes strong ethics when it comes to business processes and the partners they work with to build a sustainable body of weavers in Asia.

“Bungalow18 is a passion project for us,” says Gaya. “It has been a dream project for Franki and I, especially after having our own families and wanting a space that captured the essence of my childhood home. We wanted to build on our respective brands, support inspiring local brands and give them a platform to showcase their creations, as well as create a space which could be enjoyed, whether it was for fitness, retail therapy, sharing ideas and exchanging knowledge in business, getting pampered or simply catching up over a cup of coffee”.

For all the fitness enthusiasts, the outdoor Fitness classes available in Bungalow18 will leave you walking on sunshine – literally, as you can join morning sessions and bask in the glorious sunrise. It is definitely a different experience from your average gym. The programs currently offered are Strength and Barre Sculpt & Tone with more to come. Plus, Bungalow18 hosts a Monthly Fitness Marathon of up to half hour sessions of Strength, Barre, Zumba and Yin Yoga followed by a hearty breakfast. Guided by professional trainers, you are guaranteed a good sweat and an even better time!

Overlooking the lush garden with Bungalow18’s signature-coloured walls, one can then head on over to the Pop-Up Café nook on Fridays, where conversations are free flowing. You can discover their signature Bunga Kantan-infused drink and other delectable food and beverages that embraces Indonesian home-food classics, which is spearheaded by Franki and her Aunt Titin. During the festive celebrations, special treats, platters, and delectable delights are also available for orders. Whether you’re hosting an intimate celebration with family or looking for a unique and special experience with your friends, Bungalow18 offers a cosy pergola, patio area and garden that serve as a bespoke Events Space.

With picturesque interiors, the architecture of Bungalow18 is fashioned after a retro-chic theme with its unique 1970’s elements and high ceilings. Every corner feature Instagram-worthy backgrounds, making this place an absolute must-visit. To unwind, you can let your hair down and kick back at The Nail Bar for some self-care. Nothing screams relaxation more than getting pampered with an immersive manicure and pedicure treatment.

Ultimately, Bungalow18 is all about creating a haven for women to come to as a space to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life in an intimate and welcoming setting. A dream of Franki’s and Gaya’s, Bungalow18 is really “your home away from home” where you can always be your authentic selves and enjoy warm personalised experiences under one roof.

“Bungalow18 is definitely an exclusive place where all women are celebrated, supported, and empowered,” says Franki. “We are currently in the midst of further developing our Lifestyle & SME workshop series, such as Mindfulness, Sound Healing with Yin Yoga and topics, which will be beneficial to SME’s. It all comes down to inspiring and supporting one another, connecting with old and new friends, and simply letting one’s guard down.”

Bee Cheng Hiang and Singapore Tourism Board promote Singapore tourism in Korea

Bee Cheng Hiang, Singapore’s famous grilled barbecued meat (bakkwa) brand, and the Singapore Tourism Board, have collaborated to launch home meal replacement (HMR) and meat jerky products through South Korea’s CU convenience store. Bee Cheng Hiang’s local name in South Korea is 비첸향.

The partnership aims to generate South Korean consumer interest in Singapore as a tourist destination as travel opens up between both countries.

The limited edition Bee Cheng Hiang items include chili crab pizza, chili crab hot dog and vacuum-packed jerky.

We have seen tourism bodies partnering with food and drink players to promote tourism in overseas market. The Wonderful Indonesia scheme by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) is one of the best examples. Kemenparekraf is very active in promoting Indonesia by collaborating with both local and foreign food and drink brands.

GET READY TO CHERISH THE MOMENTS WITH NORTHWEST CHERRIES

Lovingly Cherry-Picked Just for You

7 July 2022, Kuala Lumpur – The much-anticipated cherry season is back again in full swing to satiate your cravings. Small but mighty, this brightly coloured power fruit is truly unlike any other. The “Cherish the Moments” campaign was launched today by the Northwest Cherry Growers to mark the start of the harvest season which is expected to run all the way up to mid-August.

Staying true to its meaning, the “Cherish the Moments” campaign aims to encourage the public to cherish precious moments with loved ones while devouring this highly nutritional and flavourful fruit. From bringing comfort to soothing the soul, this fruit can be enjoyed with friends and family for any occasion including birthdays, get-togethers or even picnics.

Ms Retna Malar, market representative for Northwest Cherries in Malaysia shared, “There is no denying that the Northwest Cherries are of high-quality and hold great value due to its limited availability. Given the weather complications of snow during spring this year, the early growing regions were impacted thus resulting in a lower volume of cherries than usual. However, the good news is that the quality of cherries has been one of the best in years. Not only are they being larger in size but are sweeter, juicier, more succulent and crunchier.”

Aside from its great burst of flavour, cherries are also known as the “Diamond of Fruit” because of its nutritional value. Cherries have high content of potassium, Vitamin C and anti-inflammatory properties that helps in preventing or reducing the risk or severity of several chronic inflammatory diseases. They are also low in glycemic, fat free and are sodium free. But that’s not all! These hard to resist fruit are also known to have antioxidants, namely the cancer-preventing anthocyanins that can be highly beneficial for one’s health. Cherries are also the only source of melatonin in nature. Melatonin is a hormone that is naturally produced by mammals and is responsible to regulate our sleep.

The highly acclaimed term ‘Diamond of Fruit’ comes from the long-haul process involved in guaranteeing only nutritious and top-quality cherries arrive at the journey’s end. Growing these cherries is a 12-month affair, whereby the work starts in winter before they grow into clusters of delicious snackable fruits in the summer.

The operation of harvesting cherries and getting them to their destination is a rigorous and meticulous process due to the sensitivity of the fruit. Temperature plays a crucial role in ensuring freshness at arrival and the entire supply chain ensure the core temperature of cherries are maintained at optimum level to preserve the eating quality. To prevent the field heat from affecting the fruits, cherries are harvested early in the morning and are given a cold bath immediately at approximately 0 degree Celsius completing the first part of the cold chain process. The final “(fruit)-step” involves the cherries being transported in reefer trucks to the packing facility where it goes through more cold baths, sorting, and packing. All thanks to the state-of-the-art machinery, top quality cherries reach their destinations around the world within 48 hours from coming off the tree!

Sweet cherries are grown all over the world; however, the best varieties of cherries are handpicked by growers to produce best quality yield and suit their climate conditions. Dark cherry varieties such as Chelan, Lapin, Skeena, Santina, and the world-famous Bing are available throughout season and interchange as the season progresses, while the white varieties such as Early Robins and Rainiers are available from June to July.

The attraction of cherries comes from their luscious and inviting outlook. However, there is certainly more than meets the eye when it comes to the attractive looking Northwest Cherries. Their versatility and ability to pair with various ingredients such as cinnamon, almond, dairy products such as cream, quark, yogurt, and mild cheeses, setting them apart from their fruity rivals. Although cherries are very seasonal, they can still be enjoyed outside of the cherry season. These cherries can be stored in your freezer by washing, pitting, and placing them in freezer bags or keeping it frozen for as long as 6 months. You can then enjoy frozen cherries in desserts or simply as a healthy indulgence.

For those of you that didn’t already know, Northwest Cherries are Malaysia’s favourite cherries with over 60% of the cherries consumed in Malaysia being from the Northwest Cherries growing region. Northwest Cherry Growers is represented by over 2500 growers from the Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Montana. Together they produce on average year around 400,000 MT of cherries. It is important to note that the cherry-growing regions in the pacific northwest are unique and conducive to growing cherries. This is due to the semi-arid climate which provides adequate warm days and cold nights coupled with the availability of fresh glacial water and volcanic soil. The outcome of cherries in these areas are one of the top-quality cherries in the world.

Stressing on the importance of purchasing these Northwest Cherries quickly this time around, Retna added that, “Not everyone is able to get that second bite of the cherry so don’t miss out on this opportunity to get a hold of them before it’s too late.”

The Northwest Cherries are available in participating supermarkets and retailers such as AEON, Jaya Grocer, Village Grocer, Ben’s Independent Grocers, Cold Storage, Mercato, Lotuss, Giant, Aeon Big, TF Value-Mart and NSK. They are also sold at night markets in Malaysia and are frequently labelled as USA or Washington Cherries. Fret not if you are unable to visit any of these stores physically as they can also be purchased online on websites such as Lazada, Shopee, and Hantar Fresh.

Kaspersky Safe Kids certified by AV-Comparatives for protecting children from adult content

7 July, 2022

Kaspersky Safe Kids for Windows has received an ‘Approved’ certificate from AV-Comparatives, the independent testing organization, for its ability to protect kids from pornographic content. According to test results, Kaspersky Safe Kids blocked 98.6% of adult websites. For the second year in a row, this was the only parental control solution out of those submitted that could reach the certification requirements.

In order to be certified by AV-Comparatives, a product must block more than 98% of pornographic websites, have zero false alarms on child-friendly sites, and have no severely unresolved bugs or design flaws. For this report, AV-Comparatives tested parental control solutions against 1000 sites with adult content and checked the response from 100 obviously child-friendly webpages for false positives.

Along with Kaspersky Safe Kids’ ability to block pornographic content, AV-Comparatives highlighted the almost instantaneous speed at which settings applied through the console are activated on a child’s device. Besides the report praised Kaspersky’s solution for being straightforward to install and very easy to configure using the cloud console.

AV-Comparatives also mentioned the flexibility of configuring time limits, among other key features. Parents can choose individual settings for different days or set these to change between weekdays and weekends. In addition, Kaspersky Safe Kids provides parents with a wide range of monitoring and control functions. It is available for Windows 8.1, 10 and 11.

‘Kaspersky Safe Kids for Windows has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness, and is the only parental control solution to have reached our strict certification level two years in a row. Its proven success in protecting children from inappropriate adult content, in combination with a wide range of monitoring and control functions, means that parents can feel confident that their children are surfing the web safely’, comments Andreas Clementi, CEO and founder of AV-Comparatives.

‘It is an honor for us to receive this prestigious award from the independent testing organization AV-Comparatives. Kaspersky Safe Kids, for the second year in a row, is the only solution out of all of those provided by vendors to pass all certification requirements in blocking adult content. We very much appreciate this recognition and believe it can help us improve our technologies, as well as empower parents to make informed decisions when it comes to such an important area as online safety for kids,’ comments Marina Titova, Vice President, Consumer Product Marketing at Kaspersky.
