Aims to help bakers mitigate rising food prices

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 May 2022 – Bake With Yen (BWY), Malaysia’s largest baking supplies retailer, today announced the rollout of a major price initiative, BWY Everyday Low Price, which aims to support bakers nationwide as they face the challenge of rising food costs.

Through the Everyday Low Price initiative, Bake With Yen commits to having a variety of baking essentials favoured by bakers at the lowest prices in the market year-round. The announcement comes just ahead of the annual World Baking Day on May 17.

Announcing the initiative, BWY Group Chief Executive Officer, Alexandre Rosso said, “Globally, the entire retail industry is facing supply chain challenges, as well as rising input costs.  This has resulted in price increases in food products around the world.  Managing this is a priority for BWY as we see it as our responsibility to help the baking community in Malaysia navigate these price increases without compromising the quality of their bakes or their ability to earn an income.

“This is why we are launching a major price initiative ahead of World Baking Day on May 17 — the BWY Everyday Low Price commitment. We want bakers nationwide to know that they can come to us for affordable baking essentials.  We carry over 4000 products at our 92 stores nationwide, including international and local brands at different price points, and we serve  hobbyists, part-time and even professional bakers.  Our products are also Halal-certified and meet the HACCP global food safety standard. BWY customers can be assured of quality products even at low prices.”

Malaysia has seen a sharp increase in the number of bakers since the COVID19 pandemic.  With time on their hands, cost of ingredients rising, and scarcity of supply, Malaysians turned to baking as a hobby, riding on global trends to explore new recipes and ideas.  Many also took up baking to supplement their income.

As a result, many Malaysian bakers have grown to be savvier, often choosing baking goods which provide better value for quality. Understanding this, BWY has a range of key in-house brands which offer superior value given their quality and price points. This includes Ausicows butter, which at RM7.90 per 250g pack is the cheapest butter available in the market today, as well as Cottura chocolate and cream cheese, Good Earth nuts and dried fruit, as well as Butterrich butter blend. BWY also carries a range of over 50 premixes, to make it easy for everyone to bake.

“Our primary focus is always to remain relevant to bakers nationwide. This means ensuring they have the products they need, at affordable prices, in locations convenient to them. In the current operating environment, we are using our economies of scale to source the products bakers need at the best possible costs. This is an ongoing challenge, but we believe our size and scale give us an advantage. And we are passing these cost savings on to customers in the form of our Everyday Low Price commitment,” added Rosso.
