Nestle Thailand offers lower sodium Maggi oyster sauce and cooking sauce

Nestle Thailand has launched two low sodium cooking sauces in Thailand to help consumers reduce their sodium intake. On average, Thais are consuming as much as 3,636 milligrams of sodium per day, which has exceeded the recommended amount of not more than 2,000 milligrams per day.

Consumers looking for lower sodium alternatives can turn to Maggi Cooking Sauce 40% less sodium and Maggi Oyster Sauce 60% less sodium.

At the moment, key brands in the sauce/seasoning category such as Roza, Good Life and Oyster Light (Pichai Fish Sauce) have launched their own sodium reduced offerings.

Sodium reduction is a key theme in the packaged food industry. We expect more brands will join the bandwagon starting with sauces/seasonings and instant foods before spreading into other food categories.

Similar to sugar reduction in the beverage category, it takes time for consumers to get accustomed to the taste. It is therefore necessary for brands to start the sodium reduction journey early than late.
