Mama instant noodle maker Thai President Foods to postpone plans to launch new products

Thai President Foods PCL, the maker of Mama instant noodle, has temporarily postponed their plans to launch any new Mama instant noodle varieties in the second half of 2020, reported Bangkok Post citing Pun Paniangvait, manager of the company’s President office. Mr Pun said “we want to closely watch whether there is still real demand for instant noodles in the second half of this year if the pandemic is resolved by June.”

The stocking up on pantry foods has contributed to an increase in demand for Thai President Foods’ products including instant noodles, instant rice soup and rice porridge cups. The company expects sales during the first quarter of 2020 to grow by 10% compared with a 5% growth in the same period a year ago.

Thai President Foods also said it is committed to invest around THB 700 million for business expansion in 2020. The investment will be used to install new instant noodle machines to increase the annual production capacity to about 8 million package a day from nearly 6 million. The money will also be deployed to expand warehouses. The expanded capacity will serve both the local and international markets.

Thai President Foods’ Mama brand has a 50% share of the instant noodle market in Thailand, followed by Thai Preserved Food Factory’s Wai Wai brand with 23-24% and Ajinomoto’s Yum Yum at 20-21%.

Singapore, 17 April 2020 – Recognising how much more there is to a bar than just the drinks, the team from 28 HongKong Street invites friends and family to break the COVID-19 monotony with the famous 28 experience at home. All you need is cabin fever and the internet, and anyone can log on for a socially distanced 28HKS House Party.

So, what are the crucial elements to a memorable House Party? Let’s break it down…

The Drinks

You clearly can’t have a cocktail party without cocktails. Each guest can choose three drinks (100ml each) from the House Party menu, including:

  • Lazy Bear (Herbal, Fresh, Smooth) – the best mix of peaches and herb since the death of disco
  • 28 Mezcal Negroni (Smoky, Earthy, Bittersweet) – the 28 take on the classic, equal parts aperitif
  • Remember the Maine (Spirit-forward, Bold, Debonair) – a lost cousin to the Manhattan
  • The Fess (Rich, Comforting, Night-capper) – Rum and chocolate, the best pairing since rhythm and blues
  • Wake Up Call (Bright, Nostalgic, Crushable) – Put some pep in your step with this modern coffee classic
  • Last Dragon (Spiced, Tart, Complex) – Chai spice and new/old tech meet gin’s great grandfather

Additional offerings such as beer, shots or champagne are also available upon request. You can even surprise a friend with a drink, just add it to your order and it will be included in their delivery.

The Food

Snacks are also an essential part of any well-hosted party. Each guest will receive a selection of bites from 28’s menu, including:

  • Truffle Mac N’ Cheese Balls – crunchy truffled bites of gooey American comfort
  • Garden Chips – a medley of sweet potato, taro and yam
  • Fancy Nuts – whiskey praline and chilli lime
  • Apple Fritters – with bourbon cream

Hot food arrives nearly ready, however, may require a bit of assembly before serving to ensure it tastes its best.

The Music

Music is one of the elements of the 28 HKS experience that guests enjoy most – a blend of mostly hip-hop, some songs are nostalgic while some are Avant-Garde. The House Party experience includes access to a curated Spotify playlist with some of 28’s favourite jams to enjoy at home.

The Hosts

Any party is only as good as its hosts, so naturally, the House Party experience includes 28’s bar family to serve as your hosts, as they would for any guest at the bar. Powered by Zoom, the team will greet everyone and get the party started, sharing details and stories about each cocktail selected for the party.

The Logistics

Party Plus Ups

Essential rations from 28 HKS’ food and drinks menus are also available a la carte or as an add-on to the House Party. Each cocktail from the House Party menu is available in 100ml portions for S$21. Refresh with Bajo sparkling water infusion from The Tapping Tapir

The Tapping Tapir, the maker of artisanal soda from fresh fruit juices, spices and herbs in Malaysia, has unveiled its latest creation Bajo, a new range of sparkling water infusion with juices to help you stay hydrated.

The range consists of Starfruit Syok and Watermelon Wild.

Starfruit Syok comes with a citrusy blend of 50% starfruit juice and antioxidants from green tea.

Watermelon Wild is packed with a juicy blend of 50% watermelon juice and antioxidants from green tea.

The sugar content for both drink is low at 2.6g/100ml, thanks to the use of stevia. The drink also delivers 5mg/100ml of vitamin C and is low in calories at 12kcal/100ml. The himalayan salt, which is part of the ingredient, is traditionally known to offer electrolyte balance within the body.

The sparkling water infusion (12x325ml) is available for a price of RM 55 and can be purchased on The Tapping Tapir official store. Click here to buy.

Infusion water is a category to watch in the beverage space as more consumers turn to better-for-you drink but still want to enjoy some flavour in their beverage.

Bajo is an interesting take on sparkling infusion water. The use of local starfruits and watermelon for the natural flavour is a continuation of The Tapping Tapir’s preference of using ingredients native to the country in their drinks. By combining juice with the antioxidant benefit from green tea, Bajo offers clean hydration with no artificial ingredients.

Unlike the existing Tapping Tapir range in premium glass bottle, the canned format does allow Bajo to have the flexibility to be sold in more channels.

Tiger Beer launches RM1.5 million fund to ‘Save Our Street Food’

Tiger Beer creates fund to help street food vendors cover rent during MCO; creates voucher system to support coffee shops and food courts upon reopening

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 APRIL 2020: Tiger Beer announced today that it will donate RM1.5 million to support Malaysian street food during the Movement Control Order (MCO). The funding will be used to help cover rent for street food vendors, coffee shops and food courts across the country as they face reduced income due to ongoing restrictions. RM1 million of the funds will be made available immediately, and will benefit street food vendors operating in more than 1200 coffee shops and food courts nationwide.

Tiger Beer is also giving the public a way to support their local coffee shops and food courts through this tough time, by purchasing vouchers to be used once restrictions are relaxed.

Supporters can log on to www.drinkies.my/TigerSOS and purchase a voucher for a big bottle of Tiger or Tiger Crystal (RSP RM17) at only RM10. This voucher can then be redeemed at any participating coffee shops and food courts across the country when they reopen. The outlet will receive the initial RM10 voucher price, plus the full RM17 RSP value from Tiger Beer for each voucher redeemed.

Roland Bala, Managing Director of Heineken Malaysia Berhad said, “Tiger has long been a champion for Asian street food, so it was important for us to help support the people who create the dishes we all love. We hope that the Tiger ‘Save Our Street Food’ fund goes some way to easing their financial burden during this tough time, and look forward to supporting them further as conditions improve.

We also invite the public to join us in supporting the local coffee shops and food courts where many of our favourite street food vendors operate, with the purchase of vouchers to be redeemed once restrictions are relaxed. For every RM10 spent, Tiger Beer will contribute another RM17, helping these outlets get back on their feet.”

Meanwhile, Tiger Beer is also working with the Malaysia Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors’ General Association on additional initiatives to help the wider industry.

The Tiger Save Our Street Food fund is part of a comprehensive package of support for F&B Operators and the wider community by Heineken Malaysia Berhad (HEINEKEN Malaysia). HEINEKEN Malaysia recently announced that it was providing 80,000 meals to more than 3,000 B40 community members located around the brewery premises. More measures aimed at helping outlet owners and other associated business partners are expected to be announced in due course.

Tiger Save Our Street Food is part of a wider regional initiative from Tiger Beer, #SupportOurStreets. In addition to supporting street food vendors across Asia, #SupportOurStreets encourages consumers to stay off the streets as part of continued safe distancing measures across the region.

HEINEKEN Malaysia – Business Update on COVID-19 Extension of Movement Control Order (MCO)

16 April 2020 – Heineken Malaysia Berhad (HEINEKEN Malaysia) is today issuing an update on the impact of the MCO which has been implemented by the Government since 18 March 2020 and now further extended to 28 April 2020 as announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 10 April 2020.

The Board of Directors and the Management of HEINEKEN Malaysia are closely monitoring the impact of the MCO on the Group’s operations and financial objectives. In these unprecedented times, HEINEKEN Malaysia’s priorities remains the health and safety of our employees, customers and business partners in the market and in playing a constructive role supporting the Government by ensuring full compliance with the relevant authorities’
requirements and guidelines as they work to contain the spread of Covid-19.

This major negative macro-economic development is having a significant impact on HEINEKEN Malaysia’s business.

As per our announcement on 7 April 2020, the suspension of operations of Sungei Way Brewery remains, and we continue to engage with the Government on the matter of resuming limited operations with minimal number of essential staff as and when this is possible.

HEINEKEN Malaysia’s Management is mobilised to enable the Company to face this crisis in the best possible way and to protect the long term potential of its brands and businesses.

The Group has a strong balance sheet and Management is focusing on efforts to mitigate the impact to our business, on efficiencies and protecting cash flow. Management has identified and is implementing mitigating actions to manage costs and to reduce the effect of suspended operations of the brewery on the financial results.

The lack of visibility on the end date of the Covid-19 pandemic means that it is impossible for us to estimate the financial impact of this at this stage.

The Company will provide more information on its mitigating actions in its 2020 first quarter financial report which is scheduled for release in May 2020.
